Day 24 Cont... Kazemierz Dolny

s1600/003.JPG">

These are some of the scenes from our 1 hour 15 min drive to Kazimierz Dolny. Right after the church my camera ran out of batteries and I had to miss an entire dream town of photo ops. Infact, I could live there in that little town my entire life and be just fine... And we weren't even to Kazemierz yet.

We saw this little church through the trees... I am in love with all the huge and very old churches that I see... and so we pulled over to view its loveliness!

But before we could go inside we found a much needed watercloset. At the front door was this little sign. When we entered it in "i translate" we found out that it cost 1zt for adults and .50gr for children to use this restroom. And I'll be darned if there wasn't a hired woman sitting in a little room with window right as we walked in making sure we paid it. Cole was super concerned that there was a woman in the mens restroom... for sure she was going to check him out!

This time we beat mass... And nobody was in the building so I figured I could take some pictures. It was amazing inside! Next time I will get pics of the ceilings! Everything resembles the cross in these buildings. They are long and then cross wide. The ceilings all point upwards. They are quite interesting. There was also a huge field with statues down below this building and when we went down there we couldn't read any of them. Again, we put them in 'i translate' and they had meanings we were unfamiliar with. I think the church had homes for the priests and nuns next to it. The building was being renivated. I am sure it is hundreds of years old.
We were leaving as a wedding party was arriving!

The guests arrived first. All of them in their nicest duds! They all stood out front cheering as the Bride and Groom rode up the road in this little enchanted carriage! It was soooo cute! Behind the carriage was an entire procession of cars and... get this... a BUS! A bus load of guests! All going to the wedding event! It was pretty cute.
Then the camera died. Then we drove through the rest of this city and it was completely UNREAL! Then we got batteries and drove in to Kazemierz.

These are some of the scenes we saw as we drove in. I WAS IN LOVE!
On the weekends people come and set up little shops and sell their stuff. It is a blast to walk around and see things from bread formed into chickens to antiques to blown glass, to crocheted shawls and table cloths to jewelry to farm fresh foods. (oh yes... huge raspberry crops and they are in season!) The kids were instructed to choose suveniers that they couldn't get somewhere else... and this little town delivered! It was so fun!

It was your typical Polish town center: A church, shops and restaraunts. We LOVE!

If you tipped the statue people they would move... but ONLY if you tipped them! The kids were afraid to tip our favorite statue man so I did it! This is what I got for it! He was there all day long! just standing!

If you walk through town center you come upon a lovely little river! These are all shots from the boardwalk along the river. Looking up through the trees are the remains of an OLD castle. It is being renovated.

The waterfront was romantic! Dinner boats, fishing boats and little river cruisers... And off to the other side were places to eat and a little town that is beloved by its people. It is obvious that these people really love where they live and they take great pride in Kazemierz Dolny.
If you come see me here in this far off place, I will be taking you to this fairytale land.

And not kidding... there was even a real life, very old wishing well.
